The Career Point University Hamirpur

Recognizing the fact that there is a large gap in the number of quality Institutes of higher education in rural areas as compared to urban areas and the report of National Knowledge Commission 2006, An initiative of legendary Career Point Group, which is in the field of education since 1993, the Career Point University Hamirpur was established by the Government of Himachal Pradesh vide Act No 12 of 2012 under section 2 (f) of the UGC Act, 1956.This is a UGC approved, NAAC Accredited, ARIIA, NIRF- MoE, Govt. of India ranked and is a member of AIU Delhi. The University is empowered by the University Grant Commission (UGC), a statutory body of Government of India, for the award of degrees under Section 22 of the UGC Act 1956. The University is situated in rural area facing Dhauladhar range of Himalayas.

The University was inaugurated by the then Chief-Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Prof. P.K. Dhumal in August 2012 and became functional in the same year. With a humble beginning of 96 students, the University today has around 1939 students including 171 Ph.D. students on its roll. During the past 10 years, it has grown both in size and stature and has emerged as an
institution of repute in the state of Himachal Pradesh. As of today, the University has 10 departments and 5 divisions offering degree courses in 55 branches. The University has faculty and staff strength of 135 employees.

Apart from academics, the University has emerged as a leader in the State with a Technology Enabling Centre (TEC) established by the Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India; the first of its kind in Himachal Pradesh and third in the entire north zone; Pioneer incubator under CM startup scheme by the Department of Industries, Govt. of HP, a Military Training Center, a Center for Innovation, Skill Enhancement & Entrepreneurship, Center for Co-Operative Studies & Placement; Center for Traditional Medicines & Yoga and the Directorate of Community Services for the upliftment of rural community. The University has signed 31 MoUs with different organizations/institutions for the benefits of students, faculty and the society at large. More recently, it has signed MoU with Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, National Institute of Yoga, Ministry of Ayush, Govt. of India.

At CPU, we follow time-tested, nationally and internationally acclaimed education system. We provide the range of programs/ courses in Engineering and Technology, Computer Application and Information Technology, Sciences, Business Management, Legal Studies. Pharmaceutical & Health Sciences, Ayurveda, Hotel Management /Hospitality, Journalism, Tour & Travel Management, Digital Marketing Management Microbiology/Medical Microbiology, Arts, Commerce, Yoga ,Naturopathy ,Artificial intelligence, Data Science, Physical Education, Language etc. The University has flexible academic ICT enabled learning system, value added courses with focus on basic research, innovations, transfer of technology and extension activities aimed towards the upliftment of society.We are sincerely striving to produce employable youth & leaders by inculcating the right skills at the right time.
The University has more than 3,000 alumni, including researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs serving both in India and abroad. One of our students, Ms. Vaishali Verma (Law Students) secured Ist rank in the UGC conducted NET/JRF test, Mr Shashank Kumar (Law student) qualified Judiciary Exam and Ms. Neha Dhiman of Chemistry Department joined DRDO as Research Fellow.To promote academic integrity and ensure responsible conduct of academics/research activities including the award of degrees/diplomas, Academic Integrity Committees at the departments as well as University level have been constituted and are made functional.Apart from imparting quality education to the rural youths, the University has supported economically poor students by providing government scholarships of around Rs. Seven Crore during the last five years.

The Directorate of Community Services of the University has adopted 75 villages and across the state and has helped farmers towards crop diversification and adoption of modern technologies which has led to 35% increase in the crop yield raising farmer’s income by 224% with an input-output ratio of 1: 3.24. The Directorate of Community services is associated with a number of Govt. Organizations like Indian Council of Agriculture Research – Delhi, ICAR- Directorate of Rapeseed-Mustard Research, Rajasthan, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan- an initiative of GoI, Indian Grassland Folder Research Institute- Jhansi, GoI for extending the latest available farm technologies to the farmers. The University in association with Ekal Yoga Arogya Yojna, World Yoga Federation , P.S. International Charitable Trust and other Institutions organized yoga camps for the benefit of (online/offline), 75 lakh persons and a report on this was submitted to the Ministry of Ayush, GoI. The University has also provided opportunity of “Free Online Coaching” for 100 students belonging to the state of Himachal Pradesh to prepare them for competitive examination which otherwise would have cost around Rs 20 Lakh per year. Special Provision has been made to help BPL/IRDP / EWS category Students. The University has also launched “Vigyan Darshan” program to promote science, following the idea mooted by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narender Modi“I had mooted the idea of leading scientists and innovators spending 100 hours a year with 100 students of X, XI and XII” during Indian Youth Science Congress organized in this University in association with M S Swaminathan Research Foundation. The Youth Science Congress was inaugurated by the then Vice President of India Shri Venkaiah Naidu.
