On 7th August 2025, the Department of Biosciences at Career Point University Hamirpur, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and the Bharat Ratna Prof. Swaminathan Skill Development Centre, proudly celebrated the 100th birth anniversary of the Father of India’s Green Revolution – Prof. M.S. Swaminathan.
The day was marked with deep admiration for Prof. Swaminathan’s unparalleled contributions to Indian agriculture, food security, and rural development. His vision not only transformed India from a food-deficient nation to a self-sufficient one but also laid the foundation for sustainable farming practices.
Honouring the Visionary
Prof. P.L. Gautam, Pro Chancellor of Career Point University, Hamirpur, addressed the gathering with an inspiring message for students and faculty. He fondly recalled his personal journey as both a student and a colleague of Prof. Swaminathan, sharing valuable insights into his work ethic, humility, and unwavering dedication to the nation’s progress.
Adding to the significance of the occasion, the Prime Minister of India commemorated the centenary by releasing a ₹100 coin in honour of Prof. Swaminathan’s monumental service to the country.
Engaging Students through Competitions
To pay tribute to his life and achievements, the Department of Biosciences organized multiple academic competitions:
- Speech Competition – Students showcased their research and perspectives on Prof. Swaminathan’s contributions to agriculture and food security. Ms. Kanika (M.Sc. Botany) won the First Prize for her compelling and insightful presentation.
- Quiz Competition – An interactive challenge designed to deepen knowledge of Prof. Swaminathan’s life, work, and impact. Mr. Himanshu and Ms. Deepika proudly secured the First Prize.
