Career Point University, Hamirpur, in collaboration with ICMR and HIMCOSTE, successfully hosted a 5-Day National Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) under the theme “Empowering Innovation.” The workshop brought together researchers, academicians, students, entrepreneurs, and local communities to explore the importance of IPR in today’s knowledge-driven economy.

A Grand Inauguration with Cultural Harmony

The workshop began with a soulful cultural evening of music and melody, creating an inspiring atmosphere for the academic journey ahead. The inaugural ceremony included the auspicious lamp lighting, symbolizing wisdom and new beginnings, followed by the felicitation of distinguished guests.

A tree plantation drive was also organized as part of the opening day, reflecting the university’s commitment to sustainability, growth, and innovation.

Day-Wise Highlights of the Workshop

Day 1 – Setting the Tone

  • Inauguration with cultural performances, lamp lighting, and guest felicitation.
  • Sessions introducing patents, copyrights, trademarks, geographical indications (GIs), and traditional knowledge systems.
  • A plantation drive symbolizing innovation rooted in sustainability.

Day 2 – Expert Insights and Guidance

Distinguished experts enriched participants with their practical knowledge:

  • Dr. Kamal Kant (Drug Inspector, Sarkaghat, Mandi) and Mr. Manoj Kumar (Drug Inspector, Baddi, Solan) discussed counterfeit drugs and regulatory aspects.
  • Er. Rishi Sharma (CEO, ACIC-SGTU, Gurugram) guided students on entrepreneurship and technology-driven innovation.

The day emphasized the real-world applications of IPR across industries.

Day 3 – Legal Perspectives and Inspiration

  • Dr. Sanjay Sindhu (Former Dean, Law, HPU Shimla) shared crucial insights into patent drafting and filing processes, blending theory with practical legal perspectives.
  • Padma Shri Nek Ram Sharma Ji, known as the Millet Man of Himachal Pradesh, inspired participants with his vision of sustainability and traditional wisdom in innovation.

Day 4 – Knowledge in Action and Cultural Evenings

Participants gained deeper insights from distinguished experts:

  • Dr. Shashi Dhar (Coordinator, HPPIC–HIMCOSTE) on IPR for research and technology transfer.
  • Dr. Bhavit Bansal (Scientist, CCRYN, Ministry of Ayush) on safeguarding traditional knowledge and its global relevance.
  • Dr. Hanumanthapa Makari (Biotechnology, Mysore University) on protecting biotechnological innovations.
  • Ms. Kavita Singla (Patent Attorney, Punjab) on practical patent filing and legal frameworks.

The evening concluded with cultural performances including Himachali Naati, Bhangra, Gidda, and Shaam-e-Ghazal, blending tradition with celebration.

Day 5 – A Grand Valedictory Ceremony

The closing day was graced by Hon’ble Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal Ji, Former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, alongside other dignitaries. A lamp lighting ceremony marked the beginning of the valedictory session, followed by recognition of participants and speakers.

Additionally, a special program was organized to highlight the Voluntary Certification Scheme for Traditional Community Healthcare Providers (TCHPs) in collaboration with the Quality Council of India (QCI). This initiative recognized and honored the knowledge of traditional practitioners while addressing their queries regarding the certification process.

Showcasing Innovation and Young Talent

Throughout the workshop, students and young innovators presented their prototypes and creative solutions in a technical exhibition. These exhibits reflected the spirit of entrepreneurship, problem-solving, and innovation-driven research at CPU Hamirpur.
