Career Point University, Hamirpur successfully conducted a seven-day Yuva Aapda Mitra Training Camp in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Hamirpur. The program aimed to train young volunteers in disaster preparedness, emergency response, and essential life-saving skills through expert-led theoretical and practical sessions. The inaugural day witnessed the presence of distinguished guests, including Dr. Rattan Chand Sharma and Sh. Harjeet Bhuller, who motivated participants to serve as responsible community responders.
Throughout the week, participants underwent extensive training on Search and Rescue (SAR) techniques, situational assessment, communication, and first responder responsibilities. Sessions were led by experienced officers such as Sh. Jagvinder Singh and Sh. Ashok Kumar. Hands-on demonstrations by SDRF and police personnel equipped volunteers with important rescue techniques including the Pick-a-Back Carry, Fireman’s Lift, Human Crutch Method, and Fore and Aft Method, helping them develop field confidence and teamwork.
The camp also covered critical topics such as Chemical and CBRN Safety, rope rescue methods, landslide and earthquake preparedness, and improvised rescue strategies. Expert speakers including Dr. Rattan Chand Sharma and Dr. Rajeev provided valuable insights on hazard identification, PPE usage, contamination control, and community-level disaster management.
The final phase of the camp focused on life-saving first aid procedures, wound management, fracture care, pressure bandaging, and trauma handling, guided by skilled trainers from YAMS, EDMRC Kangra, and SDRF units. The program concluded with sessions on emergency protocols, road safety, and animal bite first aid. The week-long training significantly enhanced the disaster response capability of CPU students, empowering them with practical knowledge, discipline, and readiness to act as first responders in real-life emergencies.
